Osprey Eating A Fish - Birdwatch World. This footage was taken on October 10th, 2022 at South Wall in Ballina, New South Wales, Australia. I came across this osprey perched on a rock of the break wall and managed to creep to within around 10 meters of it. I watched while it caught this fish and then flew further out the break wall to perch and eat it. I moved to within about 8 meters of the bird to film this footage and spent around 15 minutes watching it consume parts of this fish. Ospreys are fascinating birds, the only raptors that plunge dive to catch their prey. They are equipped with spiny pads on their feet, double-jointed toes, and huge talons for gripping.
